iA Writer App Reviews

Where am I?

write is easy. Finding out where the note is located is a chore.

Ugh

I loved this app to write and edit in. I loved the workflow option where the font changes depending on what youre doing. That option is gone now. I bought iAWriterPro specifically for the Workflow option. Now that its gone, so is the usefulness of this app. Can I get a freaking refund???

Everything is excellent, except one small thing :-)

Everything about this app is excellent. All the transitions are really instantaneous and latency-free! Unlike Apples Notes app, the keyboard latency here (something important for fast types) is also excellent. Theres no lag between a letter press and its rendering on the screen. This is not a small achievement. My only issue with the app is that in the iPad landscape mode, vertical screen state is very precious. When using iA in landscape, the extra keyboard bar takes a very precious area of state. Combine this with the fact of big fonts and line spacing used by iA (which are lovely), and you get only around 8 lines of text to view while writing, which is quite limited. I wish if an option to minimize (or remove) their keyboard bar exists. A small gesture to minimize that tall bar down would be enough.

Easily my favorite writing app

The highest praise I can give is that I sometimes look for excuses to write so that I can use this app more. I love writing in this app. The updates continue to refine and improve the experience. Great work!

Worth it.

Its a quintessential minimalist word processor. Although it does process words it feels more like a text editor. Its just so simple yet it has the right features with great design. Also the team behind this app are information architects. iA.net

Needs Touch ID Support

The app is great but is missing a critical feature. Most people write notes that are personal. Whether that includes passwords and financial information or ideas and business secrets, some notes need to be protected. Please give us the option to unlock the app via passcode or Touch ID.

The only app you need

This app has gotten so much better. The text analyzing features and the better icons have really saved it from the weird no icon thing. I dont love the file browser, but if you need something like that I would imagine its great stuff.

Love this program but

the latest update crashes when I try to link it to Medium. Will restore fifth star when this is fixed.

Lost data

Just lost a long input in iA Writer. Up until now, app has been very stable. Not sure if new updates created sync issues, but will need to see this updated before I commit to using further. Cant tolerate wasted time / effort only to have it lost. Please address and Ill update review.

Math ML Support

Really miss TextExpander and Math ML (Math Jax) support. Like the new version otherwise.

Dont buy this app

Version after version of this app contains bugs. The latest version doesnt have a keyboard and keeps giving me errors. If this company wont test their updates for bugs with the different IOS hardwares devices used, they should get out of the development business.

Not usefull

I regrettably leave a two star review for an application that formerly was very useful. The latest version hides the keyboard (unless I keep restarting it) and displays errors. This company should test their updates on all of Apples IOS devices before releasing them.

Terribly unintuitive

Tried this on my iPad mini 2 having used the Mac version for some years. Discovered there appears to be no visible way to name and save a document, no way that I can see to save to Dropbox or anywhere else. What is the point? Useless.

I Love This App

I use this app for all the time markdown editing, and it is great. I edit a very small weekly news message, and I receive input from all sorts of sources. This app allows me to combine everything into a single format (markdown) which then can be pasted into any email client. As a result, the text and formatting is uniform and looks good in any browser. I think that some of the users who have not posted positive reviews about this app may not be familiar with the use of markdown, and so using this app is not intuitive for them. If you do know markdown and use it regularly, this app is a breeze. You can also file your work in folders either locally, on Dropbox, or on the iCloud Drive.
